Spider-Man Sketches

Been awhile since I've posted on here. So here's some Spider-Man sketches I've been playing around with in Photoshop. I usually do a lot of pose sketches like these in Photoshop and usually don't take them any further than this. Usually what I'm trying to do with these is draw something which has a lot of movement and doesn't look stiff. You can see with the above sketches I was also working on making the hands look dynamic as well, especially the fingers.

Haru Sari

Back in January 2009 I did this layout sketch of Haru Sari, which is an online comic by a friend of mine.

I've always planned on finishing this drawing, but never really got around to it, until now.

So here's my finished inks. Using the above layout as a guide in Photoshop, I redrew all the characters and It's pretty interesting the progression from 2009 to now. I am planning on colouring this, just not sure when.

Hulk Progression Steps

Progress shots for my Hulk piece. Was going to originally do Hulk jumping through the air which he does a lot, and I really like that idea so maybe I will do that down the track.

The second idea which I did start inking was the full body pose. This would have some background elements such as the ground all cracked and broken around his feet.

I then went with the simple torso pose shot. I went with this since I figured I could work in more details which I couldn't do before. With this I've working in some feathering details which I don't normally do.

Sketches and a storyboard

I'm finishing up my first semester here and I'm currently busy finishing up the last 2 assignments in different subjects. One of the subjects is Drawing for Design, which is the class which had all the life drawing models.

Anyway the final assignment is all based around a suitcase, and one of the tasks was to do a short storyboard featuring the suitcase and a human figure in some way. So I did the story below.

If I had more panels, I probably would have had him getting dressed etc. but we were limited to 8 panels.

One of the other parts was to do an exploded diagram of the suitcase, which I used an isometric grid on.

Another part was to do some environment sketches of the suitcase in different locations. Now I found this hard to do, so I just did some quik 15-30 second sketches of people with bags in everyday environments. I ended up doing these with a copic marker.

Life Drawing session - part 4

Sketches from this weeks life drawing session. Next week will be the last session for the semester. Kinda sad since I enjoyed these life drawing sessions a lot. I also think they helped my artwork a lot as well.

Avengers Sketch Part 2

Did a new Avengers sketch. Hopefully looks a bit more dynamic then the last one.

Not sure who else I can add in this layout. Maybe add a character flying above.

Perspective Drawing

Did this for my drawing class. Dunno if I should work on it more, by adding in more details or just leave it as it is. I kinda like the unfinished look to it.

Sketched this up in Photoshop. Might try and work in some more Avengers characters.

Life Drawing session - part 3

Had a pretty jam packed life drawing session today. All the drawings seen below are from 30 second poses, so these are done more for gesture drawing.

What I like most about these drawings is that they are done so fast, that you have to get the pose down quick, that as you go along you find yourself getting into the flow. I also like when the pencil wears down and you start drawing with this really flat pencil which has some nice flow to it.

The next drawings we did after all these gesture drawings, was to do some forced perspective type drawings. That is we had to take the model who was sitting in front of us, and try and redraw it from looking above and below.

We then finished up with some 5 minute poses.

So all in all a pretty jam packed session. Pretty much filled up my sketchbook now with all these sketches, will have to buy a new one.

From the drawing board

Here's some photos from my iPhone of something I'm working on at the moment for a class assignment. Got to design 3 apps for the iPad around a few selected theme ideas. This app here is a bit of a rip off Tiny Wings on the iPhone with some changes made to it, but I still like the idea of it.

Life Drawing session - part 2

Some life drawing taken from todays session.

Below is some 15 minute sketches. I think I need to do the under drawing in future with a blue pencil before going in with the pencil.

Life Drawing session

So I've started doing life drawing in my drawing class on Friday. It was pretty interesting exercise since I haven't done any life drawing since 1996 I think? Anyway it was mostly 1 to 2 minutes poses, with some 5 minute poses towards the end.

All of these images on the right are 2 minute poses I think of the model holding an umbrella.

Towards the end, we did a series of 6 poses with the umbrella which we were told to animate into a sequence in Photoshop, similar to the hand piece I posted before. You can see the end result below.

Below is some 5 minute sketching we did at the end of the session.

Some drawing exercises

Haven't been posting much since I've started the new semester for university, this time at a new uni. The best thing about this new course is it's more art focused than my old degree I was doing, so I am enjoying it a lot more.

Here is a drawing exercise we had to do, which is a short animated gif of 7 drawings of my hand going from open to close. I'm pretty happy with how it came out, seeing how it's not done like traditional animation with light boxes to make sure everything is smooth, but rather just drawing each hand separate then combined in Photoshop and hope it works lol

The other exercise we had to do was to draw a bike from memory, then draw a bike from observation.

Batman dropping in sketch

So here's my original sketch for the Batman piece you see below. As you can see the finished version ended up a lot different.

Here you can see I wanted to have this strong under lighting, which I don't know was really successful in the finished piece.
